StenCoat
StenCoat is an oxygen-excluding, biodegradable film made of an interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) applied to existing substrates (like paper).
For packaging, oxygen exclusion is the #1 goal.
Spoilage is caused by: (1) oxidative reactions and (2) aerobic microorganisms in the product.
If oxygen is kept away from your product, neither of these can happen!
Scientists refer to a material’s ability to block oxygen as its OTR (Oxygen Transmission Rate). An OTR is a measurement of how much oxygen an object allows to pass through it in 24 hours
OTR is measured in cubic centimeters per meters squared per day.
A lower OTR indicates a material is better able to protect a product, but also normally means the object will take much longer to break down in nature (up to 10,000 years).
